Tulsi, also known as holy basil or Ocimum sanctum, is a wild aromatic plant often used in the traditional medicine of India known as Ayurveda. They are said to be used to help balance the chakras and bring out the good and joy in people.

Tulsi is often used in teas, supplements and essential oils for its potential health benefits.

Examples of how to use Holy Basil / Tulsi in your daily routine.

Tulsi Tea:

Use 1 teaspoon per cup (200ml) of boiled water and let it steep for 10-15 minutes.

Tulsi Vinegar:

  • Take a “Mason Jar” and fill it to >3/4 full with Tulsi leaves
  • then pour raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar over it to about 2 fingers from the rim.
  • Shake well and let it macerate in a warm and sunny place for 3 to 4 weeks until the vinegar has absorbed the rich aroma and properties of the holy basil.
  • When it is ready, strain the leaves from the vinegar and pour it into a new bottle. (E.g. old vinegar or wine bottle)
  • Use: delicious to sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons over your salads or drink a shot glass of this tulsi vinegar every day or mix a tablespoon of it in your smoothie.

Hoe bereidt je een lekker kopje kruidenthee op de juiste manier ?

Om de juiste manier van bereiden te kunnen gebruiken gaat men eerst kijken welke ingrediënten er in de thee mengeling zitten. 

Zijn het voornamelijk bovengrondse delen van het kruid zoals blaadjes, stengels of bloemen of zijn het eerder hardere stukjes van het kruid zoals stukjes van de wortel of schors ? 

Bij de bovengrondse delen zoals blaadjes, stengels en bloemen is het voldoende om deze te laten trekken in 95°C water gedurende 10 - 15 minuten .

Bij stukjes wortel of schors is het beter om deze 10 minuten te laten meekoken en deze dan te zeven en drinken.

Bij een mengeling van beide in jouw kruidenthee, dan kan je het best 99°C water gebruiken en deze 15 minuten laten trekken.
